What
are the ICAVL continuing education requirements?
MEDICAL DIRECTOR
The
Medical Director must show evidence of maintaining current
knowledge by participation in CME courses which are relevant
to vascular testing. To be relevant the course content must
address the principles, instrumentation, techniques or interpretation
of noninvasive vascular testing. A minimum of 15 hours of CME
is required every three years, of which at least 10 hours are
Category I. Laboratory correlation conferences or other internal
quality assurance meetings are not to be counted as part of
the CME requirement.
NOTE:
If the Medical Director has completed formal training as specified
under 1.1.2.2(A) in the past three (3) years, has successfully
acquired an appropriate credential in vascular technology within
the past three (3) years, or has begun new employment with the
laboratory within one year prior to applying for accreditation,
the CME requirement will be considered fulfilled.
TECHNICAL DIRECTOR

Do your credits meet the ICAVL CME requirements?
The
Standards require that CMEs are relevant to noninvasive
vascular testing. In order to be relevant, course content must
contain one of the following (specific to noninvasive vascular
testing):
- Principles
- Instrumentation
- Techniques
- Interpretation
CME
courses pertaining to vascular surgery, interventional procedures
and other ultrasound specialties (i.e., MRA, CT, echocardiography,
general ultrasound) do not satisfy the requirement.
