Maintaining Compliance
Accredited Laboratories Will Now Undergo
Random Audits and Site Visits
|
Continued ...
Laboratories will be notified of the findings that result from their random audit or site visit. If deficiencies are noted, the laboratory will be required to submit appropriate preventative action plans or other documentation as deemed necessary, based upon the significance of the infraction. If substantial lack of adherence to the Standards exists or findings pose immediate jeopardy to the public or laboratory personnel, the IAC will follow its Grounds for Adverse Action Against Accreditation policy (IAC Accreditation Policies & Procedures, Section 13). Included in this policy are the following sanctions:
• |
Denial of accreditation |
• |
Revocation of accreditation |
• |
Non-renewal of accreditation |
• |
Suspension of accreditation |
• |
Reprimand |
• |
Other corrective action |
The IAC will continue to evaluate and monitor the random audit and site visit processes to ensure they are fair and effective methods of evaluating continued compliance with the Standards. Knowing that laboratories accredited by the IAC divisions are proud of their accomplishment and take great strides to uphold the level of quality associated with being accredited, it is anticipated that they will embrace the opportunity to further validate the significance of accreditation to health care providers, patients and other industry stakeholders.
Labs with questions about the new, random audit and site visit program may contact Cindy Weiland, RVT, IAC Director of Accreditation/QA Monitor, at 800-838-2110 or e-mail weiland@intersocietal.org.
