Delay Materials: Important Facts

ICAEL DIVISION NEWS | Autumn 2008

Decisions on submitted delay material are made within two to four weeks of the receipt of the information. Delay issues must be resolved by an applicable deadline; deadlines remain firm and are never extended, in order to accommodate the review process.

The three-year accreditation period is predetermined by the month of the Board of Director’s meeting. The expiration date will not be extended if the initial decision is delayed. When compliance to The ICAEL Standards is ultimately demonstrated, laboratories will be granted accreditation for the remainder of their three-year period.

Laboratories receiving a delay decision at the time of reaccreditation are extended a sixty-day grace period in order to allow ample time for these applicants to provide the additionally requested material and avoid a lapse in their accreditation. During this sixty-day period, the laboratory name will remain on the ICAEL website list of accredited laboratories and continued use of the ICAEL Accredited Laboratory logo is permitted.

Laboratories that are eligible for a provisional grant after resolving delay issues should address the delay issues as soon as possible in order to take advantage of the one-year provisional grant.
