Welcome! Mary T. Lally, RT(R)(MR)
Named Technical Manager for ICAMRL/ICACTL

ICAMRL/ICACTL DIVISION NEWS | Spring 2008

In April 2007, the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission welcomed Mary T. Lally, RT(R)(MR) as the new Technical Manager for ICAMRL and ICACTL. With over 20 years of experience in the fields of MR and CT, Ms. Lally's career has given her a full range of clinical, managerial and technical knowledge, including management of an MRI Imaging Division, sales of software imaging systems, knowledge of fixed and mobile MRI units, and the implementation of radiation safety. "I believe that there is nothing more important than quality patient care," Ms. Lally stated, reflecting on her past experiences. "As an imaging professional, I took pride in the fact that I treated each patient as an individual to provide quality images, because I knew that the patient's medical management depended on it."

Ms. Lally is an ARRT-certified MRI Technologist. She studied at The Johns Hopkins School of Radiological Technology and Special Procedures School, where she was valedictorian. Ms. Lally is active on both the local and national levels within several professional societies, including the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT), the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), and the Baltimore/Washington Chapter of the Health Physics Society. Currently enrolled in the Masters Program in Radiation Physics at Oregon State University, Ms. Lally is working on her thesis and will graduate next fall.

In her dual role at the IAC, Ms. Lally looks forward to the challenge of helping MR and CT laboratories make quality a top priority. "As the Technical Manager for ICAMRL and ICACTL, my role is the same - ensuring quality patient care. The accreditation process is designed so that laboratories that provide a level of patient care that meets the Standards are granted accreditation. Although I no longer perform the studies, my responsibility is to assist laboratories in the accreditation process, but my goal is to help them achieve accreditation through compliance with the Standards so that patients receive not only diagnostic imaging, but quality care during their time at the imaging facility."

As the Technical Manager for the ICAMRL and ICACTL divisions, Ms. Lally is now the main point of contact for MR and CT labs preparing their applications for submission. She oversees the individualized correspondence received by applicant laboratories, including the detailed summary of the Application Review Findings which identifies each laboratory's strengths and weaknesses. Working closely with trained application reviewers and site visitors, Ms. Lally helps prepare their evaluations for review, in conjunction with the quarterly accreditation decisions made by the ICAMRL and ICACTL Boards of Directors. In addition, she represents the ICAMRL and ICACTL at various national meetings and lectures.

Laboratories with clinical questions regarding ICAMRL or ICACTL accreditation are encouraged to contact Ms. Lally by telephone at 800-838-2110 or via email at lally@intersocietal.org.
