Letter From The CEO
Autumn 2008

Sandra L. Katanick, CAE
CEO

Welcome to the Autumn 2008 issue of the Newsletter. It is our sincere hope that the variety of articles published within this issue continue to be a helpful resource of information for your laboratory.

As we enter the season known for change, it has been an exciting time of change for the IAC as we evolve, update our practices and internal policies to allow for new growth, and strive to improve the accreditation processes for all of our divisions. The most notable achievement for 2008 has been the development and introduction of Online Accreditation, the innovative online format of the accreditation application. The launch of Online Accreditation began last year starting with ICANL and will continue for each division throughout 2008, replacing all prior Accreditation Applications on CD and/or in paper formats. Another significant change impacting IAC occurred in July with the recent passing of new Medicare legislation by Congress, which includes a provision requiring the accreditation of imaging facilities within the next four years as a condition for reimbursement. The passage of this bill marks the beginning of a nationwide recognition of the importance of quality standards and accreditation for medical imaging.

Within this issue, noninvasive vascular laboratories will find an article offering insight into the ICAVL accreditation program for Peripheral Arterial Testing. The ICAEL provides a breakdown and analysis of the decision letter received by laboratories, and defines each of the possible accreditation decisions. The ICANL discusses the art of successful case study selection and submission, offering guidelines to help labs make informed decisions when choosing cases to represent their day-to-day operations. With the recent trend toward new methods for breast cancer screening, the ICAMRL spotlights the emerging field of Breast MRI, and the increasing significance laboratory accreditation bears in this portion of the magnetic resonance community. As both the newest division and the latest to launch Online Accreditation, the ICACTL provides guidance to CT laboratories who are ready to begin working on the application.

We at the IAC greatly value your feedback and comments regarding the IAC Newsletter. By creating a unified publication that both addresses the Commission as a whole and shares news from the individual divisions of imaging accreditation that we offer, our goal is to meet the needs of laboratories by communicating information about IAC imaging accreditation, keeping your laboratory well-informed.
