EASY STEPS TO LABORATORY ACCREDITATION

STEP 1: Get the materials.

VIEW AND PRINT THE STANDARDS.
Laboratory staff members are encouraged to read through the Standards closely, making necessary modifications to the laboratory's operations prior to beginning work on the application.

The laboratory will have all that it needs to begin the application process.


STEP 2: Begin working on the application.

RECEIVE HELP WITH SPECIFIC DETAILS.

VIEW THE ACCREDITATION ON DEMAND WEBCASTS.
These webcasts are free and available 24 hours daily from any computer. Visit any one of the IAC websites to log on to an On Demand webcast today. Topics include:

  • Preparing Your Staff and Facility For Accreditation
  • Do Your Protocols Meet The Minimum Requirements?
  • QA/QC and Accreditation: Documenting Your Laboratory's Accuracy
  • Are All Of Your Final Reports Complete And Accurate?
  • Case Studies: Documenting Your Proof of Quality

STEP 3: Submit your completed application.

ALLOW SUFFICIENT TIME.
The IAC staff is here to provide assistance in helping you achieve accreditation for your laboratory. Laboratories are encouraged to submit their applications early in order to be in compliance. Visit any one of the IAC websites or call the office at 800-838-2110 for more details.

ICAVL - Beginning June 1, 2009, laboratories may submit ICAVL applications at any time. In the past, ICAVL laboratories were required to submit applications by the first of March, June, September or December to meet the deadline. In order to be processed within the upcoming month, applicant laboratories must submit by the first of the month and case studies must be received in the ICAVL office no later than the 5th of the month.
ICAEL - Beginning May 1, 2009, laboratories may submit ICAEL applications at any time. In the past, ICAEL laboratories were required to submit applications by February, May, August, or November to meet the quarterly deadline. In order to be processed within the upcoming month, applicant laboratories must submit by the first of the month and case studies must be received in the ICAEL office no later than the 5th of the month.
ICANL - Beginning April 1, 2009, laboratories may submit ICANL applications at any time via the Online Accreditation System. In the past, ICANL laboratories were required to submit applications by January, April, July, or October to meet the quarterly deadline. In order to be processed within the upcoming month, applicant laboratories must click the submit button by the first of the month and case studies must be received in the ICANL office no later than the 5th of the month.
ICAMRL - Beginning June 1, 2009, laboratories may submit ICAMRL applications at any time via the Online Accreditation System. In the past, ICAMRL laboratories were required to submit applications by the first of January, April, July, or October to meet the quarterly deadline. In order to be processed within the upcoming month, applicant laboratories must click the submit button by the first of the month and case studies must be received in the ICAMRL office no later than the 5th of the month.
ICACTL - Beginning June 1, 2009, laboratories may submit ICACTL applications at any time via the Online Accreditation System. In the past, ICACTL laboratories were required to submit applications by the first of March, June, September, and December to meet the quarterly deadline. In order to be processed within the upcoming month, applicant laboratories must click the submit button by the first of the month and case studies must be received in the ICACTL office no later than the 5th of the month.


STEP 4: Await the accreditation decision.

RECEIVE A PEER-REVIEW.
Laboratories receive an accreditation decision from the IAC 16 - 20 weeks from the application deadline at which they submit. Following a thorough peer-review conducted by two independent reviewers, the Board of Directors renders one of the following decisions:

  • Granted...accreditation for three years
  • Provisional Grant...accreditation for one year
  • Delay
  • Site Visit
