Enhancement to Online Accreditation Allows Facilities to Enter and Store NPI Data and/or Medicare Enrollment Numbers
NOVEMBER 2011 | The IAC recently released an update to its Online Accreditation application and enhanced the way in which it collects and stores identification information, specifically National Provider Identifier (NPI) data and Medicare enrollment numbers for each participating facility.
It is important for Echocardiography laboratories to update this information in your IAC Online Accreditation account as most insurers now request verification of accreditation status via data file transfers. For those facilities that have not yet accessed the new Online Accreditation format, it is highly recommended that you login to your account at this time. The temporary login information was sent to each account holder when Online Accreditation was launched in April 2011 for Adult Echocardiography laboratories and in September 2011 and for Pediatric Echocardiography laboratories.

ICAEL Online Accreditation Now Available for Pediatric Applicants!
New Format Greatly Improves Application Process
SEPTEMBER 2011 | Announcing the implementation of the new ICAEL Online Accreditation application for Pediatric Echocardiography applicants! The IAC is pleased to make this innovative online format available to applicant echocardiography laboratories. Free access to ICAEL Online Accreditation is available for use by laboratories when applying for accreditation for the first time or for reaccreditation. ICAEL Standards Used in Testimony to FDA,
Validating Safety of Ultrasound Contrast Agents
MAY 2011 | Paul A. Grayburn, M.D., F.A.C.C., the Medical Director of ICAEL-accredited Cardiology Consultants of Texas, LLP in Dallas, testified on May 2, 2011 to a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advisory panel. As a representative of the International Contrast Ultrasound Society (ICUS), Dr. Grayburn validated the safety of ultrasound contrast agents as useful diagnostic tools.
Dr. Grayburn specifically referenced the ICAEL Standards, as part of his testimony, noting that as of July 2010, the accreditation process now requires the use of contrast in all suboptimal echocardiograms. Grayburn stated that ICAEL's standard of care is consistent with the totality of current safety information.
As published within Part IV, Adult Stress Echocardiographic Testing, of the ICAEL Standards»
D) Contrast is indicated for use in patients when two contiguous segments are not
visualized and provides greater accuracy in determining left ventricular function.
Laboratories should have a written policy for use of contrast agents for stress
echocardiography.

ICAEL Announces Its Purchase of Echo ToolBoxTM(ETB) from the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE)
DECEMBER 2009 | “The ICAEL’s acquisition of the Echo ToolBox TM will now provide a more efficient avenue for laboratory accreditation. This will be a clear benefit for those seeking to demonstrate their commitment to excellence in echocardiography. We appreciate ASE’s strong continued support of the accreditation process,” remarked ICAEL President, Geoffrey Rose, MD, FACC, FASE.
By acquiring ETB, the ICAEL will be able to utilize the popular policy wizards, tips and other tools that have been valuable in helping echo labs standardize their policies and protocols to meet the accreditation standards for the performance of quality echocardiography studies. The incorporation of these tools into the soon-to-be-released ICAEL Online Accreditation application format will enhance the user’s ability to progress quickly through the application.
The ICAEL looks forward to enhancing the accreditation process for all participating laboratories through the integration of many of the components of ETB.
Current ETB users with support questions should contact ICAEL Senior Application Specialist Laesha Shivdasani at shivdasani@intersocietal.org or 800-838-2110.
