Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey is expanding its arrangement with CareCore National, LLC to include implementation of diagnostic imaging, transthoracic echocardiography and stress echocardiography privileging requirements.

"Effective November 30, 2009, Horizon BCBSNJ working with CareCore will use echocardiography privileging criteria for transthoracic echocardiography and stress echocardiography. The performance and interpretation of these studies will be limited to: Cardiologists who are board certified in cardiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) or Primary Care Physicians and Geriatricians who are certified by the National Board of Echocardiography (NBE) for transthoracic echocardiography. Sites performing echocardiography studies will be required to have Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories (ICAEL) accreditation.

Board certified cardiologist sites will require ICAEL accreditation no later than November 30, 2010 to be eligible to continue participation in this program."
