ICAVL Announces Changes to Case Study Requirements

DECEMBER 2011 | Effective immediately, the ICAVL has changed the requirements for submitting case studies when applying for accreditation. Several enhancements to the Online Application have allowed the ICAVL to accept fewer case studies from applicant facilities as well as provide the capability for facilities to upload all required attachments including final reports and worksheets into the application. The ICAVL is pleased to announce the following changes to the case study requirements:

  • The ICAVL has decreased the total number of required cases that must be submitted. Each laboratory is now required to submit three abnormal cases of varying degrees of pathology in each area the laboratory is applying for.
  • All facilities will now submit the same amount of cases whether applying for ICAVL accreditation for the first time or for reaccreditation.
  • Laboratories are now required to upload all final reports and worksheets to the Online Application.
  • All medical and technical staff must be represented at least once before repeating.
  • The Technical Director and Medical Director must be represented

To view the case study requirements in their entirety, please visit the Case Studies section of the website at www.icavl.org/icavl/seeking/case_studies.htm.

Enhancement to Online Accreditation Allows Facilities to Enter and Store NPI Data and/or Medicare Enrollment Numbers

NOVEMBER 2011 | The IAC recently released an update to its Online Accreditation application and enhanced the way in which it collects and stores identification information, specifically National Provider Identifier (NPI) data and Medicare enrollment numbers for each participating facility.

It is important for Vascular laboratories to update this information in your IAC Online Accreditation account as most insurers now request verification of accreditation status via data file transfers. For those facilities that have not yet accessed the new Online Accreditation format, it is highly recommended that you login to your account at this time. The temporary login information was sent to each account holder when Online Accreditation was launched in September 2009 for Vascular laboratories.

All Technical Staff Must Obtain Vascular Credential by 2017

OCTOBER 2010 | In an effort to ensure that laboratory staff are maintaining the appropriate level of training and experience to provide quality patient care, the Technical Staff Qualifications portion of the ICAVL Standards for Accreditation in Noninvasive Vascular Testing now includes a requirement related to credentialing. The ICAVL Board of Directors voted unanimously to require all technical staff to hold a valid vascular credential by January 1, 2017. Approved credentials are RVT, RVS, and RT(VS). For those laboratories performing visceral vascular examinations only, the RDMS (AB) credential is accepted.

Remember, the ICAVL is here to help. Labs with questions about the newly amended standard should contact the ICAVL.
