Steven
Bernhardt, RVT, RDMS joins the ICAVL Board of Directors
as a representative of the Society of Diagnostic Medical
Sonography. Mr. Bernhardt has been an active sonographer
for the past 25 years and is presently a sonographer at
Integris Baptist Medical Center, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Previously he served as Technical Director of the Vascular
Laboratory and Ultrasound departments of Ochsner Clinic
Foundation, New Orleans, Louisiana. For 15 years Mr. Bernhardt
has also served as a medical lecturer for the registry
review company Education for the Sonographic Professional,
specializing in abdominal ultrasound and the physician
vascular interpretational review.

Kathleen
Carter, BSN, RN, RVT, FSVU joins the ICAVL Board
as a representative of the Society for Vascular Ultrasound.
Currently Ms. Carter is a consultant with a company that
provides vascular testing services in the East and Northeast,
serving as a clinical preceptor and mentor to a group
of vascular technologists. She also holds a teaching position
as Clinical Instructor in the Department of Surgery at
Eastern Virginia Medical School, Norfolk, Virginia. Upon
receiving her BS in Nursing from Old Dominion University,
Ms. Carter became licensed as a Registered Nurse in 1972
and earned the credential of Registered Vascular Technologist
by the ARDMS in 1983. In 2001, Ms. Carter was awarded
Fellowship status in the Society for Vascular Ultrasound,
where she has remained an active member since 1979. Over
the past twenty years Ms. Carter has given many lectures
and presentations during various vascular conferences,
and has co-authored numerous publications and book chapters.
In addition to the Board of Directors, Ms. Carter also
serves the ICAVL as an application reviewer.

Heather
L. Gornik, MD, RVT, RPVI joins the ICAVL Board as
a representative of the American College of Cardiology.
Dr. Gornik is the Medical Director of the Non-Invasive
Vascular Laboratory in the Department of Cardiovascular
Medicine at The Cleveland Clinic, where she also serves
as Staff Physician and Director of Vascular Medicine Research.
Upon receiving her medical degree with honors from the
University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, Dr.
Gornik completed her residency and fellowships at Brigham
and Women's Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts. In 2005,
she earned her MMSc degree in Clinical Investigation from
Harvard Medical School/MIT Division of Health Sciences
and Technology. A teacher and mentor, Dr. Gornik also
serves as Assistant Professor of Medicine at The Cleveland
Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve
University and has taught previously at Harvard Medical
School. She has lectured extensively and co-authored numerous
publications, abstracts, reviews and book chapters. In
addition to ACC, Dr. Gornik is a member of the American
Heart Association, the Society for Vascular Ultrasound,
the Society for Vascular Medicine and Biology, and the
American Society of Echocardiography.

Michael
Lilly, MD, RVT, RPVI joins the ICAVL Board representing
the Society for Vascular Surgery, where he is a Distinguished
Fellow. After receiving his medical degree from Georgetown
University School of Medicine in 1978, Dr. Lilly completed
his residency training in Surgery at Brown University/Rhode
Island Hospital, in Providence, Rhode Island, including
a 2-year research fellowship at Brown University in integrative
cardiovascular physiology. He completed a vascular surgery
fellowship at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois.
Currently Dr. Lilly is employed at Maryland General Hospital
in Baltimore, MD, where he serves as Chief of the Department
of Surgery, Director of Maryland Vascular Center and Medical
Director of the Non-Invasive Vascular Lab. Dr. Lilly is
also a tenured full-time faculty member of the University
of Maryland School of Medicine. His credentials include
the Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) and the Registered
Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI) designations
from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography,
as well as certification by the American Board of Surgery.
In addition to the SVS, Dr. Lilly is actively involved
in numerous professional societies including Society for
Vascular Ultrasound and the American Institute of Ultrasound
in Medicine. During the past twenty years, he has lectured
extensively and has co-authored numerous publications,
abstracts and book chapters. Iin addition to the Board
of Directors, Dr. Lilly has served the ICAVL as a site
visitor since 1993.

Charles
Tegeler, MD
Charles
Tegeler, MD joins the ICAVL Board representing the
American Academy of Neurology. Dr. Tegeler completed his
medical education and Internal Medicine residency at the
University of Missouri-Kansas City. Upon completing his
Neurology residency at the University of Texas Health
Science Center-San Antonio, he continued to serve on the
faculty there for nearly five years. In 1990 Dr. Tegeler
joined the faculty at Wake Forest University School of
Medicine, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. As a Professor
of Neurology, he now holds the McKinney-Avant Chair in
Neurosonology, and also serves as Medical Director of
the Comprehensive Stroke Center at WFUBMC, Medical Director
of the Neuroultrasound Laboratory, and Director of the
B-Mode Ultrasound Center. At the Wake Forest University
School of Medicine, Dr. Tegeler directs the Neurovascular
Ultrasound courses and fellowship programs. Today Dr.
Tegeler's research focuses on new uses of ultrasound in
stroke, cerebrovascular disease, and concussion, as well
as the use of ultrasound for risk identification and prevention
of stroke and cardiovascular disease.
