Of
the Medical Directors listing a specialty in 2003, slightly
more than half (55.9%) are vascular surgeons, while 18.5%
of the medical directors are radiologists. Cardiologists
comprise 11.5%, neurologists 3.2%, and the remaining 10.9%
list internal medicine, none, or other specialty.
Of
the 2007 medical staff listed in last year's applications,
43.6% are radiologists, and 35.8% are vascular surgeons.
Cardiologists make up 10.2% of staff, and neurologists
8.2%, with the remainder (2.2%) listing internal medicine
or another specialty.
The
credentials of the Technical Directors and the technical
staff members also produced interesting results. Of the
Technical Directors listed in 2003, 75.1% are Registered
Vascular Technologists (RVT) and 4.0% are Registered Vascular
Specialists (RVS), while 22.4% do not hold a vascular
credential. Technical staff is also comprised largely
of RVT-credentialed members at 42.6%. No vascular technology
credential was listed for 56.4% of technical staff, while
1.4% listed an RVS credential.
With
the constantly changing environment of healthcare, and
specifically, that of the vascular laboratory, it is difficult
to foresee how the statistics regarding ICAVL accreditation
will change over the coming years. The profession should
be proud of its consistent strides to provide and promote
quality patient care through the process of ICAVL accreditation.
